Victory Gardens for Peace Propaganda

During the second world war, the United-States promoted the growing of backyard gardens, Victory Gardens, in order to off-set the food requirements of feed the troops.

Here you’ll find old video and poster propaganda, some of which we can still use to inspire our generation to grow food at home, but for a victory in food sustainability, not war.

During the Second World War, getting the most from your little plot of land was crucial. This film, produced by the Ministry of Agriculture in 1941, explains how to prepare an area of ground for growing your veg, and shows why not having space is simply no excuse.

Victory Garden Cartoon

Private SNAFU cartoon created by the Army Signal Corp for WWII troops to show them that the folks at home were doing their part to support the war effort. Animated by Theodore Geisel, aka Doctor Seuss and voiced by Mel Blanc (Bugs Bunny), these cartoons were definitely not aimed for the Cat in the Hat and Loony Toons crowd.
